Welcome to my blog about Classical Social Theory. This blog is a requirement for my social theory course, however, that doesn’t mean it can’t be a fun and interesting way to explore classical theory within the context of contemporary society. Here I will attempt to explore and explain the theories we are learning in class and also have a little fun connecting and applying theory to every day life.

Check it out...thats me, pondering classical sociological theory!

P.S. In case you are wondering about the super hip fashion themed header to this page, it’s just a reference to my slight obsession with Georg Simmel’s 1904 writing, “Fashion“. No big deal really.

Indeed, our dog Casey thought the first 15 pages of my text were quite tasty. Good thing I didn’t plan on selling it back anyway. Haha

…yet I still want to hear more about the banner….Simmel and fashion.
As a critique of Simmel and the binary nature of high concept of duality, could explore pop mags such as People’s feature “who wore it better” or the television segment “celebrity or streetwalker?” with Joan Rivers, et al (Kelly Osborne, and I can’t think who else). I just think your banner shows one side of Simmel’s point–the “high end” side but of popular fashion.
